new job, but having trouble finding a way to wear my usual mens clothes instead of womens?
I am starting a new job at a shoe store. They require that I wear dressy casual types of clothing, but it all has to match my shoes. I can't wear any shoes with canvas and I cant wear tennis shoes. The only shoes I have been able to find were high heels and ballet flats. All of my clothing, which is mianly mens clothing, will not go with any of those shoes, I would look rediculous. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can keep my personal style and not have to wear women's clothes and sheos? maybe any ideas of where I can buy shoes that would go well with mens slacks?

- Yea.. Heels or Ballet flats just will not go with those slacks. Go to Payless shoes if you are in the states.. You should be able to find some decent mens dress shoes there.. Cheap. If you do not have a Payless shoes.. go to Sears, Pennys or Nordstroms.. they will have some really nice quality shoes... Working at a shoe store.... hmmm.. maybe get some there... before you start to work....
- why dont you look at the shoe store you are to be employed at? since they sell shoes and all, you may get a discount.
- You should be able to get men's dress shoes in your size. You may need to order them, and you should try them on if you aren't used to getting mens size shoes because they are different than womens sizes.
- Not the answer you're looking for, but sometimes we all have to give up some of our individuality in dress for a paycheck. Then what you do is slowly change your style to what you want and by the time you're dressed the way you are most comfortable they can't object if you have proved yourself to be a valuable employee. I know exactly what you are going through. When I was a stone butch many years ago I got an accounting job in a high fashion clothing designer's shop. I dressed for the job (they call it dressing for success) and felt like a drag queen. Over about 6 months I managed to change my style to a little more "tailored" look with slacks and shirts and this was acceptable...but it would not have been when I first started.
