How do feminists view male crossdressers?

The question just flew into my head. Are they bad because they want to imitate women? In a steryotypical way, maybe . . . ?

Public Comments

  1. They do not bother me.
  2. I'm perfectly fine with them. A lot of them are actually really good at passing off as women in public-it's interesting.
  3. I've never been aware of any particular feminist consensus on the matter. Is it even an issue? As long as he buys his own stockings and doesn't cadge mine, it's nothing to me.
  4. Depends on the feminist.....cros dressing is not because a man wants to be a woman......it is a stress release.....hard o understand the makings of a man....but n general it is not any thing to do with wanting to be female
  5. I don't think there's one way that "feminists" view male cross-dressers any more than there's one way that all left-handed people view cross-dressers, or all people with brown eyes. The notion that all feminists think alike is really just bigotry, when you get down to it, just like thinking people in any other group all think alike.
  6. I've never been aware, of any particular feminist consensus on this matter. Is it even an problem, that will cause further issues? As long as he buys his own stockings, and doesn't cadge mine, it's nothing to me!
  7. my only question is... why the hell do they get to be prettier than me!? i mean have you seen some male crossdressers? they can be downright gorgeous! grrr arrrr... other wise...its cool.
  8. I think it really varies. I have heard that some ostracized mtf transgendered people as not "really" women. As for "mere" cross-dressing I do not know. I have never heard anything like an "official" position on the issue.
  9. I admire anyone who has the courage to live their life as they see fit and choose to follow their passions over going along with the status quo.
  10. Thank you for a great question! I love crossdressers. Feminism believes that gender is a patriarchal construct, so crossdresses (i.e., transexuals) are confusing to any set of gender politics, so it boils down to the individual. Some feminists may dislike them for pure upbringing reasons, some may feel they are trapped in a mindset that harms them rather then helps. (i.e., wearing female clothing to become a woman symbolically, to put away the stress of being male for a time). Others may like them, like myself, because they are brave and despite the fact they usually imitate the most extreme patriarchal standard of beauty, I applaud them for doing it when they are under so much pressure not to. Note: I am not reffereing to Transgendered individuals. Totally different issue.
